Singer Sewing Machines

Singer 9W

After Singer’s purchase of the Wheeler & Wilson company in 1905 they continued production of the Wheeler & Wilson D9 under the new name Singer 9W. The machine above is a later Singer 9W7. The main difference between the updated model 9W7 and the earlier Wheeler & Wilson D9 is that the bed was resized to fit into the standard Singer cases and cabinets.

An oddball Singer 9W

There’s an uncommon variant of the Singer 9W that doesn’t use the standard “bagel” style bobbin, it uses instead a bobbin that is very similar to the bobbin found in the Singer Featherweight. This “Featherweight” bobbin is actually a hair larger then the one found in the Featherweight, so you shouldn’t use the Singer 9W bobbin in your Featherweight, but it’s safe to use the Featherweight bobbin in this version of the Singer 9W.
