Singer 457 Stylist

This Singer 457 Stylist came to me as a parts machine with a broken plastic top gear. I may rebuild it at some point, but for now it’s used as a reference when answering questions.

Tensioner

Here’s a quick look at the tensioner laid out in order.
Plastic gears

If you have this machine already and it’s running, then go ahead and use it, but if you’re considering the purchase of a Singer 457 Stylist, I’d recommend against it due to it’s plastic top gears. Those gears can be replaced, but unless the machine is a family heirloom it’s probably not worth the trouble since you can find an all metal machine for less than the parts and labor will cost to replace the gears.
