Kenmore 158.1345381 Ultra-Stitch 8

The Kenmore 158.1345381 Ultra-Stitch 8 was introduced in 1981, manufactured in Taiwan for Kenmore by Jaguar/Maruzen. As you can tell from the name this machine came with 8 internal stitches. This machine does have a plastic cam stack and some of the drive train contains plastic parts.

Maruzen Mischin Company was founded in 1949 in Japan. They became a Sears supplier in the mid-1950s and launched their first zigzag machine in 1952. The company opened a Taiwan factory around 1969–1971 and renamed itself Jaguar Sewing Machines Company in 1978. By 1981, the Taiwan facility was producing machines for the U.S. market under the Sears/Kenmore label.

Jaguar machines sold through Sears carried the 158 prefix in the U.S. In Europe, the same machines were sold as Frister & Rossmann.
