Davis Sewing Machines

Davis N Vibrating Shuttle

The Davis N is a vintage sewing machine produced by the Davis Sewing Machine Company. Based on its configuration, this example appears to be an underfeed Model N.

This machine features a vibrating shuttle (VS) mechanism and straight-stitch capability. It’s a 3/4-size, all-metal machine with a bed-mounted feed adjuster located in front of the pillar and a top-clamp presser foot design. Like other Davis machines of the era, it was built for durability and mechanical simplicity.

The crest on the bed indicates distribution through Hibbard, Spencer & Bartlett (HSB), a major hardware wholesaler that rebranded many American-made sewing machines in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The Davis N represents an interesting example of early American sewing machine engineering and remains a desirable piece for collectors, restorers, and vintage mechanical sewing machine enthusiasts.
