Singer 418 Stylist

The Singer 418 Stylist is part of Singer’s mid-range “Stylist” line. It’s a rotary hook zig-zag machine that accepts Singer stitch pattern cams, using a low shank presser foot and Class 66 bobbins.
The 418 uses the flat disc style cam system, the earlier generation before Singer transitioned to the top hat style discs. Singer’s external pattern cams were marketed as “Fashion Discs“, with the later double-layered “Flexi-Stitch” format added as the line evolved. The 418 accepts both styles of flat disc.
The Singer 418 Stylist’s hybrid construction, a cast metal body paired with some plastic drivetrain components, reflects a broader industry shift during this period, as manufacturers began incorporating plastic parts in response to growing competition from overseas producers.
This particular unit came in as a parts machine and is missing the stitch selector and power/light switch knobs. It’s kept as a reference when answering questions.
