Singer 338 Style-Mate

This is my 1965 Singer 338K Style-Mate. It’s a mid-range all metal drivetrain, class 66, oscillating hook machine. It uses the Singer type A fashion discs (flat cams). The Singer 337 is like the 338 Style-Mate, except that it doesn’t take external stitch cams.
Note: The bright aqua in the first photo isn’t really accurate to the color of the machine, it’s a rather pale aqua in real life.
A few shots of the mechanics

As stated above, the drive train is all metal, but there are a couple of plastic parts like the front facia, and a couple of the tensioner parts, etc.

Internal bobbin case and vintage class 66 bobbin

Three post control plug and machine plug. This is almost the same shape as the earlier “D” shaped plug, but it’s a little smaller and has a bump on the flat side.
If you decide to purchase a Singer 338:
- Make sure that it has a set of cams with it, or at least the basic Zig Zag cam in place or you won’t have Zig Zag.
- Check to make sure that the tensioner releases when you lift the presser foot because this machine does have the little plastic stop bar that tends to break.
