Wheeler & Wilson No. 9

This is an original Wheeler & Wilson No. 9 manufactured from roughly 1890 to 1895. On very early examples 1887 to 1889, the stitch length adjuster was located on the pillar of the machine, so we know this machine was made before that.

This machine features a completely removable bobbin case mechanism not unlike the one found on the Wheeler & Wilson No. 8.

It’s my understanding that the bobbin case for the Wheeler & Wilson No. 9 is interchangeable with some, but not all Wheeler & Wilson No. 8 machines. I don’t have a Wheeler & Wilson No. 8 to test against.

I tested bobbins from my Wheeler & Wilson No. 9 in the Wheeler & Wilson D9, and Singer 9W* machines and found them to be interchangeable. I’ll note that I’ve found conflicting information about this online, and I have a sample of only one #9 machine and one bobbin from said machine, so if you choose to try bobbins from other models, do so carefully and at your own risk.
* Some of the Singer 9W machines use a bobbin that is very much like the bobbin used in the Singer 301 Slant Needle. I did not test the bagel bobbin from the Wheeler & Wilson No. 9 in these machines.
