Domestic Model 153 Rotary

Domestic 153 Rotary is a slightly upscale version of the similar Domestic 151 Rotary.

The Domestic models 153 and 151 rotary machines were manufactured by the White Sewing Machine Company, and both have a White sewing machine badged counterpart. The White version of the Domestic 153 Rotary is the White 77 Rotary.

The Model 153 Rotary uses the standard White Rotary bobbins and used the new style rotary bobbin case. The older wishbone style bobbin cases will not work in the Domestic 153 or 151 rotary machines. As of the time of this writing new White rotary bobbins are being produced, but I haven’t gotten any to test thus far, but vintage bobbins aren’t too hard to find.

Domestic 153 Rotary as I found it in a local thrift shop.

A common issue with friction drive rotary machines is that the drive wheel develops a flat spot from resting against the handwheel for an extended period of time. You can buy new friction wheels, and it’s a good idea to place a shim between the motor and the machine that’s just thick enough to keep the wheel from touching.

The user manual for this model is available on the ISMACS website: Domestic 153 Rotary User Manual
