The model 5932 is one of Singer’s mid 1980’s heavy plastic machines, it uses a slant shank presser foot, class 66 bobbins, and features a rotary hook.
Convertible to Free Arm
The bed extension can be removed to convert the machine into a free arm.
Heavy, but not Heavy Duty plastic framework
Unlike most of the plastic machines you find today that have a metal skeleton beneath a plastic shell, this machine is made of a dense molded plastic body. It’s not flimsy feeling like the new machines, but the plastic tends to crumble when you remove or replace screws so you have to keep this in mind when making repairs.
Plastic drive train components
No surprise of course, the Singer 5932 has plastic gears, it also has a timing belt that drives the rotary hook and feed dogs.
Tensioner removal
The tensioner unit can be removed by pulling off the cover above it, exposing the fastening screw.
What’s it worth?
This is another mid-1980s Singer with plastic parts in the drive train. If you already own one and it works, keep using it until it fails. They tend to run about $20 to $30 in my area (Tallahassee, FL). If you’re thinking about buying one, I’d pass and look for a machine that’s either much older or much newer.
